Against the backdrop of a beautiful sunset, faithful prayer warriors gathered to commemorate this fall’s 40 Days for Life Campaign with a candlelight vigil. The flickering flames reminded us of the light each life brings into this world, and we honored with prayer the precious lives ended too early. This international call to prayer unites people around the globe in a concentrated effort to cooperate with God to bring an end to abortion.

We lifted voices in praise and hearts in prayer amidst the sound of rush hour traffic.  MCRTL President, Joe Morrison, reminded us that this effort is all about God’s love. We acknowledged His presence in the sound of the wind, the songs, and even the traffic behind us, because we all share in this gift of life, being made in His image.

We heard a powerful testimony from Helen Lowery, a beautiful example of a life greatly valued by God, but that some in the world would have deemed useless. “I am here to declare that no baby is a mistake, and every mother needs to give her child a chance to live,” she said. “My mother may have not liked the way I was conceived, but she said she never regretted giving life.”

Thank you to everyone who fasted, prayed, and volunteered their time outside the doors of Planned Parenthood. Thank you especially to Barbara Vlaha and Theresa LaRock for serving as the vigil coordinators. We pray that one day the doors of Planned Parenthood will close for good. But until they do, let’s continue to fast, pray, and shine God’s light upon this dark place.

Although our fall 40 Days campaign has concluded, MCRTL maintains year-round prayer outside the Planned Parenthood on Louetta every Saturday morning from 8 – 9:30 am.  Please come join us then or go out to pray at whatever time works for your schedule.  We must be where the hurting  people are and the decisions for life or death are being made.  If you go out to pray at a time other than MCRTL’s 8-9:30 am time frame, please download MCRTL’s Health Service List and bring it with you.  The Health Service List provides information about area pregnancy care centers as well as free and reduced cost general medical care.  Our prayers are vital but we also want to be equipped with tangible resources for the young women and men in need.
